The Dallidet Adobe is one of those secret gem venues that locals know about and tourists walk right past. It is the oldest standing adobe structure in San Luis Obispo, sitting on over an acre of gardens right in the middle of downtown SLO.
What makes the Dallidet special is the trees. Massive, old-growth trees that create natural canopies of shade and light. When the afternoon sun filters through those branches, it creates this dappled light effect that looks like something out of a film. You cannot fake this kind of light. It just exists here.
The gardens are informal and lush. Not perfectly manicured like a hotel, but wild and romantic in the best way. Jasmine, roses, fig trees, old stone pathways. It feels like a secret garden wedding and that energy makes the photos feel timeless.
For couples who want something that is not a vineyard and not a ballroom, the Dallidet is perfect. It is outdoor, historic, intimate, and full of character.

Here's what a typical wedding day looks like at this venue
Most couples get ready at a downtown SLO hotel (Hotel SLO or Granada Hotel are both gorgeous and close). I capture all the details and emotions.
A private first look under the fig tree or along the stone pathway. Just you two surrounded by greenery and soft light.
Fun, casual group photos throughout the gardens. The variety of backdrops means every photo looks different.
Your vows under the heritage oak canopy. The filtered light is pure magic and your guests are comfortable in the shade.
While your guests enjoy cocktails, we sneak away for golden hour portraits in the gardens. The low sun through the trees creates the most gorgeous light.
Dinner, toasts, first dance under string lights in the garden. The transition from golden hour to twilight is stunning and I capture every stage.
The gardens face south, so the light is beautiful all afternoon. The tree canopy filters harsh sunlight into soft, dappled patterns year-round. Golden hour at the Dallidet is special because the low sun catches the leaves and turns everything golden-green. In summer, aim for 6:30 to 7:30pm for the best light. Winter, 4:00 to 5:00pm.
Limited on-site parking (this is downtown SLO). Street parking is available on nearby streets. The city parking garage on Palm Street is a 3-minute walk. Recommend shuttling guests from a nearby hotel.
The Dallidet is a historic site, so there are some rules. No staking into the ground (no tent stakes). Music must end by 10pm (city noise ordinance). No red wine on the property near the adobe (seriously, they are protective of the historic structure). All setups must be approved by the venue coordinator.
The dappled light under the trees is the best thing about this venue. But it changes throughout the day. Visit at the same time of day as your ceremony to see how it looks. I always scout before the wedding to know exactly where to position you.
This is not a manicured ballroom venue. The beauty is in the wildness. Couples who lean into the garden aesthetic (earth tones, flowing fabrics, natural flowers) get the most cohesive and stunning photos.
SLO can get breezy in the late afternoon. Veils, loose hair, and lightweight decor can all be affected. Talk to your coordinator about wind mitigation and consider a veil that can be removed after the ceremony.
The Dallidet is at its best with 75 to 100 guests. It can hold 150, but it starts to feel crowded. Smaller groups let the gardens breathe and make for better photos with more space to work.
Do a walkthrough with me and your coordinator at least a month before. We will map out every photo spot, the ceremony flow, and where the light will be at your specific time of year.

The tree canopy provides some natural cover, but for a true rainy day, you will need a tent plan. SLO rain is rare outside of winter months, so most couples are fine. I always have a rainy day photo plan that actually produces some of the most dramatic and beautiful images.
